This tour is for those looking for a laid-back afternoon photowalk that starts at Gotokuji Temple and explores the charming surrounding neighborhood. This is the birthplace of the famous Maneki Neko or beckoning cat, one of Japan’s most recognizable symbols. The tranquil grounds of Gōtoku-ji are dotted with thousands of beckoning cat statues of varying sizes.
From there, we’ll wander through quiet backstreets, explore local temples shrines, and little-known residential alleys that offer a rare, authentic glimpse into everyday Tokyo life. This route is full of textures, colors, and unexpected scenes - perfect for street photography and for anyone new to the city who wants to see more than just the tourist highlights.
Finally ending in the neighborhood of Sangenjaya, or Sancha, as the locals call it. A short 2 stops from the more famous Shibuya station, this relaxed, retro-tinged neighborhood known for its narrow alleys, one of the most scenic and photographic yokochos in the city (Sankaku Chitai), local eateries, and creative, lived-in charm.
