THE EXPERIENCE

FIND THE FRAME IN THE CHAOS

Shinjuku can be overwhelming to photograph. Crowds move in every direction, signs compete for attention, light changes from one street to the next, and interesting moments appear and disappear almost instantly. But that unpredictability is also what makes it one of Tokyo’s most rewarding neighborhoods for street photography.

Spend the evening exploring Shinjuku with Tokyo street photographer Yusuke Nagata, learning how to make sense of that visual noise and turn what you see into stronger photographs.

Over roughly two hours on the streets, Yusuke will share his approach to composition, timing and working with available light while helping you become more aware of the people, gestures and small moments unfolding around you. You’ll explore how to simplify busy scenes, anticipate a photograph before it happens, approach street portraits naturally, and make creative decisions quickly as the environment changes.

The emphasis isn’t on recreating a particular image or following a checklist of famous photo spots. It’s about developing your own eye and learning how to recognize photographs within the everyday rhythm of the city.

After the shooting portion, you’ll sit down together over a drink and snack to review your images. Yusuke will help you identify your strongest frames, discuss what worked and what could be improved, and walk through his approach to selection, Lightroom editing and post-processing.

Whether you’re relatively new to street photography or already comfortable with a camera, you’ll leave with new photographs from Shinjuku — but more importantly, a better understanding of how to observe, react and build stronger images wherever you shoot.

YUSUKE

MORE THAN ONE WAY TO EXPERIENCE TOKYO

COME TO LEARN. COME TO EXPLORE. OR BOTH.

From hands-on street photography coaching to simply discovering the city with someone who knows where to go, we tailor the experience to you.

WHAT WE’LL WORK ON

LOOK CLOSER. SHOOT DIFFERENTLY.

Yusuke’s approach is rooted in documentary street photography - observing real life, anticipating moments and finding meaning in the details others pass by. Throughout the night, we’ll focus on the core skills that shape his work.

01

observing the everyday

Learn to notice the gestures, interactions and overlooked details that turn ordinary moments into compelling photographs.

02

QUIETING THE NOISE

Shinjuku is visually dense. Work on isolating subjects, using layers and building compositions that make sense of everything happening around you.

03

using available light

Use whatever the city gives you — fluorescent interiors, street lamps, signs, shop windows and deep shadows — rather than trying to make every scene look perfect.

04

Street photography happens quickly. Learn to anticipate movement, recognize when a scene is developing and react without overthinking the photograph.

TIMING + INSTINCT

05

PEOPLE + PLACE

Explore how people interact with their surroundings and how small details, backgrounds and atmosphere can say as much about Shinjuku as the subject itself.

06

Rather than trying to recreate Yusuke’s photographs, use the workshop to understand what draws you to a scene and begin developing a more personal way of photographing the street.
