THE EXPERIENCE

Beyond the lights, ginza has another side

Ginza is synonymous with high-end luxury shopping, global brands and some of the world’s finest — and most expensive — restaurants. But that’s not what we’re here to see.

With a history stretching back centuries, Ginza is a part of Tokyo where the contrasts Japan is famous for are hiding in plain sight. Traditional and modern Tokyo exist comfortably side by side, often separated by little more than a narrow alley or doorway.

Beyond the polished storefronts and bright lights, we’ll explore rooftop shrines, dark backstreets, hidden bars and quiet corners tucked away from the crowds. It’s here that Ginza begins to reveal another personality — atmospheric, mysterious and surprisingly gritty, with layers of history beneath its modern surface.

There’s plenty here for street photography: dramatic light and shadow, reflections, architecture, passing characters and unexpected details that are easy to miss if you don’t know where to look.

(Even Godzilla has been known to pass through here.)

Join us as we explore the unseen Ginza, where old spirits still linger.

WHAT WE’ll work on

BEHIND THE SCENES

Finding photographic moments in the working streets, service alleys and overlooked spaces behind Ginza’s polished exterior.

GEOMETRY + FRAMING

Working with architecture, lines, doorways and negative space to create strong, deliberate compositions.

PEOPLE + PLACE

Using passing figures, silhouettes and everyday moments to give scale, atmosphere and narrative to the city.

LIGHT + SHADOW

Using Ginza’s illuminated storefronts, deep shadows and pockets of light to create dramatic, graphic images.

LAYERS + REFLECTIONS

Using glass, mirrors and reflective surfaces to build layered compositions and reveal multiple sides of the street at once.

FINDING THE UNSEEN

Training your eye to notice the shrines, alleys, textures and small details most people walk straight past.
